Moe Life Skills’ Life Skills Disability Service aims to provide participants a range of supports and services to encourage inclusion and independence in the following areas: Capacity Building for Participation, Education & Training, Skills for Community Living, Health & Well Being, and the Arts.


Capacity Building for Participation

Self-advocacy is a movement, not a program, therefore participants need a willingness to engage in the movement and development of skills in self-advocacy as well as increasing awareness of social and community issues to become active and contributing citizens.

This program is suitable for people with individual learning needs and people who have a disability. It will provide participants with basic skills and knowledge to enhance own self development, including individual needs, communication, interpersonal skills and life skills.

This program is suitable for people with individual learning needs and people who have a disability. It will provide participants with basic skills and knowledge in: contributing to the preparation of their own lunch; basic garden maintenance (eg. planting seedlings, watering, weeding); accessing community venues for health and recreational purposes and meeting cultural interests.

This course provides participants with a range of skills in carpentry to create wooden projects, conduct basic maintenance repairs. Participants will learn how to safely use manual hand tools and power tools, follow instructions to construct, maintain and restore woodwork. Participants will learn to design, plan, organise and schedule, calculate and measure a project of their choice. Participants will develop skills from hands-on activities and projects.


Education & Training

This program is suitable for people with individual learning needs. It will provide learners with basic skills and knowledge in running a school canteen while gaining real work experience. This includes customer service skills, communication, teamwork, problem solving, money handling and time management.

This program will assist learners to develop and enhance skills to increase confidence to lead a more independent life in the community including options for further training and/or voluntary work. It promotes communication skills, teamwork activities, problem solving, travel training, cooking healthy meals, budgeting and household tasks.

Students will learn the basic skills to work in a small café selling coffee, hot and cold drinks. The course will provide students with basic skills that can be transferred to other settings including cafes. Skills include communication, planning and organising, teamwork, customer service, personal presentation, WH&S issues, safe food handling,  following direction,  handling money and self-management-time, responsibilities, and completing tasks.


Skills for Community Living

Landscape 1Healthy Cooking
This program will provide participants with basic skills and knowledge in how to prepare a healthy meal from planning, shopping to preparation. Participants will take prepared food home.

Landscape 6a.jpgLife and Living Skills
This program will provide participants with skills to enable a more independent lifestyle. They will work towards the development of skills to enhance their participation in their home and/or their community. It will include travel training, healthy cooking, basic budgeting and household tasks.


Health & Wellbeing

This program is suitable for people with individual learning needs and people who have a disability. It will provide participants with basic skills and knowledge in: preparing and cooking healthy meals; health issues related to lifestyle and diet; simple exercise routines; and promoting personal care and hygiene.

This program is suitable for people with individual learning needs and people who have a disability. It will provide participants with basic skills and knowledge in making healthy lifestyle choices. Participants will use public transport to experience a variety of fitness and recreational activities in their own community that enhance their health and well being.

This program is suitable for people with individual learning needs and people who have a disability. It will provide participants with basic skills and knowledge in healthy lifestyle and activity choices. This includes fine motor skill activities, armchair exercises, walking, eye/hand coordination activities.


The Arts

This program is suitable for people with individual learning needs and people who have a disability. It will provide learners with basic skills and knowledge in music, singing, movement, stagecraft and teamwork. Learners are encouraged to express themselves through music related activities, theatrical basics, discussion and karaoke sessions, with the opportunity to perform both musical and/or a theatrical piece of work in front of an audience.

This program is suitable for people with individual learning needs and people who have a disability. It will provide participants with basic skills and knowledge in music, dance and movement with the aim to perform in front of others. Participants will have the opportunity to use a variety of musical instruments, learning about patterns, timing, beats and rhythms.

This program will provide participants with basic skills and knowledge in a variety of art & craft techniques and applications. Participants will create their own personal projects and engage in a community project.
